Bernadette Adkins
RN, BScN, IBCLC
Bernie earned her bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of New Brunswick/Humber college collaborative program in 2009. She has always had a strong passion and interest in the area of maternal/child health and has enjoyed working as a postpartum and Labour and Delivery nurse for the past 12 years. While on maternity leave, Bernie's passion for breastfeeding grew even stronger as she embarked on a wonderful breastfeeding journey with her son Bohdi. This gave her that extra push to pursue her goal of becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC.) Bernie works as an LC in a hospital setting, helping support families of term and preterm infants reach their breastfeeding goals. Her commitment to empowering families through education also led her to work as a prenatal educator for Public Health.
When she is not helping other families Bernie enjoys spending time with her partner Logan and their two amazing little boys Bohdi and Lennox and 2 energetic fur babies Molly and Fynn.
Andrea McAmmond
RN, BScN, IBCLC
In high school Andrea knew she had a passion to work with young families, having a Co-op placement in Labour and Delivery, Obstetrics and the Breastfeeding Clinic reassured her she was on the right path. In 2009 Andrea graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from McMaster University and began working as a Registered Nurse in Obstetrics. Two years later she began working in Labour and Delivery. One of the most rewarding parts of her job is being able to coach, support and help families during one of the most important experiences of their lives.
Andrea’s birth and breastfeeding experiences with her two children were very different. She encountered many obstacles and was blessed to have the support of Bernie amongst others to help her through them. After the birth of her second child, Andrea was inspired to earn her International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification. Andrea received her IBCLC designation in 2020 and is looking forward to utilizing the knowledge and experience she has acquired over the last 12 years in this new role.
Andrea loves spending time with her son, daughter and husband. Hobbies include eating lots of dessert and watching RuPaul’s Drag Race.
